Double parking is an epidemic in Malaysian cities. A lack of urban planning means there aren't enough parking spaces. Even in places with allotted parking structures, safety while walking through these structures is a concern. And public transport isn't comprehensive enough to encourage people to leave their cars at home. While Petronas can't solve the root of the problem (just yet), it decided to do something to prevent parked-in driver rage. And hopefully, endear more drivers to the brand!
We gave out free car stickers in traffic-choked neighbourhoods. The stickers were printed with a unique QR code and corresponding registration code. Double parkers simply have to download a free app and register their phone to the car sticker. They then affiix the car sticker to their windscreen. When the parked-in driver returns, all he needs to do is scan the QR code with any QR code reader. The app then sends a notification to the double parker to move his car immediately.
